There are a variety of educational opportunities throughout the school year to celebrate diversity, inclusion and kindness. When students feel represented, welcomed, supported, respected, and safe, they are more engaged in learning. What follows are some recent opportunities of strategic ways, in advance of Pride Month, that the District has been supporting students in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, their families, and allies.
IDAHAT: Recognition Day Provides Learning Opportunities
Students from across the District came together for a breakfast event, put on in partnership with the SOGI Committee to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. The keynote speaker was Monica Helms, who created the Transgender Flag. Over the years, the annual IDAHAT breakfast has included opportunities for connection and community, featuring a wide variety of speakers such as authors, politicians, musicians, and other distinguished guests spanning a wide range of identities and backgrounds.
Each year IDAHAT takes place on May 17. The Pride Flag was raised at the 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ School District Administration Office to mark the day.
Parent Information Evening: Introduction to SOGI Inclusive Education
The 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ School District led a virtual SOGI Information Session for parents and caregivers to learn about SOGI inclusive education in 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ Schools. Held on May 23, it provided an introduction to the work in schools, a review of the District’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) policy, and answered questions provided by families. It was attended by nearly 200 parents and caregivers. To watch the recording of the session, click on the video below.
