Auto Collision and Refinishing Technician

This program offers a unique opportunity to earn credits that count towards high school graduation and Level 1 of your technical trades training with the SkilledTradesBC.

WHAT DOES AN AUTO COLLISION AND REFINISHING TECHNICIAN DO?

  • repairs, adjusts and replaces sheet metal and allied parts of cars, trucks and buses
  • estimates and calculates vehicle repair costs
  • prepares vehicles for paint application (masking, sanding and priming)
  • estimates and calculates repair costs

WHAT DO I NEED TO START?

  • entering grade 11 or 12
  • good employability skills
  • a willingness to learn
  • strong interest in entering industry
  • mechanical aptitude is an asset

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE PROGRAM OFFERED?

  • There are two intakes for this program:
      • September — June
      • February — October
  • Vancouver Community College (Broadway Campus) Monday to Thursday
  • attend current school on Fridays to complete other courses

HOW DO I REGISTER?

  • visit the Career Centre at your school for more information
  • submit an application package
  • participate in a program interview

Jason Sherle and his brother were always intrigued by cars – and making a living working with cars was always top of mind. The Auto Collision and Refinishing Technician Program was the perfect fit and he excelled, winning skills awards locally, provincially and nationally. He had a choice of companies willing to take him on as an apprentice after graduation in 2015. He particularly enjoys perfecting his craft, working on high-end vehicles like Lexus and BMW.
