Carnaval provides an opportunity for students at many schools throughout the District to learn through a celebration of French-Canadian culture.
For example, at 脡cole Marlborough Elementary, Kindergarten students used their ADST (Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies) skills to build an ice palace or 鈥減alais de glace鈥 out of white cups for Bonhomme, the mascot of the famous Winter Carnaval which takes place in Quebec City every February. To many Canadian families, the 7-foot snowman, who represents winter fun is as magical as Santa Claus. He also delivered maple cookies to students, where, in celebration of French culture, some students ate freshly made crepes.
Over at 脡cole Inman Elementary, the weather provided snow in time to celebrate Carnaval, with students getting the chance to use the real thing to build their ice palaces. Bonhomme also checked out student creations made out of sugar cubes and other projects.
