Students across the District have been spreading holiday joy and caring for the community through a variety of ways.
Children at Aubrey Elementary donated money to the BC SPCA to help animals, after raising funds through a holiday craft fair where they also learned about business. Confederation Park Elementary’s leadership club also raised funds for the BC SPCA, collecting more than $700 with their holiday markets of hand-crafted art and baked goods. Student entrepreneurs at Brantford Elementary held a Mistletoe Market with their handmade items. The children donated part of their earnings to charity.
Leadership students from 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ North Secondary had some festive fun decorating trees at a local mall. The Deer Lake Rotary Club’s Festival of Lights is a fundraiser for Boots for Kids. Youth at 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ North also raised more than $4,000 for Cystic Fibrosis research. Students from 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ North spread holiday cheer with Operation Elf at a retirement home. The six youth in Leadership initiated the project, organized more than 70 handmade cards, and delivered them personally to residents. Read more about it in the local news:

Kitchener Elementary was one of the schools that participated in the 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ Christmas Bureau’s Angel Tree project. In a separate initiative, Grade 7s at Gilpin Elementary created their own Angel Tree to provide holiday gifts for 50 local school-aged children. Gilpin families selected a tag with the child’s age and their wish, with the presents delivered in time for the holiday season.
Students at Gilmore Community School collected socks for people who are unhoused. A group of Grade 7s at Montecito Elementary held a toy drive for Mamas for Mamas and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. The Buckingham Elementary community generously donated items to help families in the school district who lost their homes in a fire.
Leadership students at Alpha Secondary held both a clothing drive and food drive to support people in need. Alpha students also organized a bake sale to earn funds for Children’s Hospital and created handmade cards for hospitalized children.
With this masterpiece, these students at 91×ÊÔ´È«¼¯ Central Secondary won 2nd place in the high school category of the prestigious Gingerbread Lane Contest. The winning team involves two students in the Professional Cook Program. Encouraged by their instructor, they spent weeks after school planning, baking and shaping the details of their enchanted gingerbread forest – all with a friend they recruited to work with them. Their winning work in the Hyatt Hotel’s annual contest is estimated to be viewed by 20,000 visitors.
